Heavy Vehicle Training – Ballina, Lismore & Casino

Heavy Vehicle Training – Course Options

In the North-Eastern Region of NSW, specifically Ballina, Lismore and Casino, we can provide students with access to a multitude of Heavy Vehicle Licence courses. Specifically:

If you have access to your own Light Rigid or Multi-Combination vehicle, we can provide training for those licence types as well.

How do I make a Booking?... It's easy! Check out our Booking Guide for more details.

What's the first step?

The very first step in upgrading your licence is to do the knowledge test at RMS/Services NSW. To get you started we can send an email with some helpful links for that part of the process - fill in the form linked below and we'll do the rest.

About These Truck Licences

The medium rigid licence usually takes just 1 day. The time to complete a heavy rigid licence, and heavy combination licence can vary a little depending on your current and previous experience. Give us a call and we can organise for a trainer to discuss options that best fit your needs.

All courses cover the safe and effective operation of the vehicle that you have come to learn to drive. Ultimately, at the end of the training the most important thing is that our students are not only safe, but confident on the road when driving.

Who will be my trainer?

We work very closely with Steve Magnay from Training 4 Transport in Northern NSW. Steve has been doing this kind of training for quite some time, and draws from a number of years industry experience - particularly in the fuel industry. Want to know more about tanker work? Steve can help.

Want a leg up in the Transport Industry?.. Get your Dangerous Goods Licence as well, we can help with that too!

Not sure which licence you need?

Feel free to give us a call if you aren’t sure what licence you need. In general though, the biggest jump you can make from a car is to a heavy rigid. And, before you can go for a HC licence you need to have held an MR licence or HR licence for at least a year.

Have your own vehicle and want to learn in that?

If you have your own vehicle and want to do your truck licence upgrade in that, no problems at all, we can still help with this. For light rigid, and multi-combination, you would typically need to provide your own vehicle for the training anyway.

Note that when providing your own vehicle/trailers there are certain criteria the vehicle/trailers must meet as required by the RMS for assessment purposes. Call us to discuss on 0431 446 472.

About the training

Heavy Vehicle Competency Based Assessment (or HVCBA) is run by Roads and Maritime Services (formerly Roads and Traffic Authority - RTA) accredited Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) with heavy vehicle licensed driving instructors.

In the course students will benefit from one on one training with our instructors to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to safely drive the desired heavy vehicle type.

During the course students will be trained and assessed in various competencies with the final competency assessment (FCA) to be undertaken at the end of the course. It includes systematic and efficient control of all vehicle functions, monitoring of traffic and road conditions, management of vehicle condition and performance and effective management of hazardous situations.

Upon successful completion students will be able to upgrade their licence to the specific licence for which they undertook the training.

Qualifications

For those students who also elect to complete a theory test issued by our RTO in addition to the normal practical training, a Statement of Attainment can be issued. Specifically:

Competency Based Training/Assessment

This is a competency based training and assessment course, and the time we allocate for participants to complete this course is based on an estimate which we have historically found to cover a high proportion of participants. As everyone learns at different rates, some participants will need more time than what we have estimated to reach the required level of competency. In this scenario, there will be additional costs for additional training days.
