First Aid Training Summary
The First Aid training course is conducted in Newcastle, and is aimed at anyone who wishes to learn about first aid as well as how to correctly administer CPR.
The course gives participants the skills and knowledge to apply First Aid in various situations that may be encountered in both everyday life and the workplace.
The minimum cost for the First Aid training is $1800, which covers a group of up to 15 participants. Note that travel and accommodation may be applicable for sites outside the Newcastle LGA.

Who Is This Course For?
This course is aimed at individuals, as well as those in a workplace setting that are required to have the necessary skills and knowledge to apply First Aid in a range of situations in the community or in a workplace setting.
For those in the education or child care sector this is NOT the course for you. You will need to complete the HLTAID004 - Provide an emergency first aid response in an education or care setting. We also provide this course, so should you need it please ask about this particular unit of competency.

About the Course
The First Aid course is a one day course conducted in Newcastle, with some additional pre course material to be completed prior to attending.
The course assessment comprises both a practical and written assessment. Practical exercises will be conducted throughout the training with participants taking part in various scenarios both individually and in groups to enable the trainer to ascertain competence. Oral questioning, role playing and case studies will be used to gather evidence of competency.
Training Outline
The course covers:
- Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Fractures, breaks and dislocations
- Minor and major burns and scalds
- Spinal and head injuries
- How to deal with a unconscious casualty, including fainting
- How to apply bandages
- Choking in adults, children and infants
- Severed limbs
- Poisons
- How to treat bites, stings, heatstroke and other Australian summer hazards
Course Requirements
Participants must have the physical capacity to perform 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on the floor.
There are no other requirements for this course (aside from the pre-course work where applicable). First Aid is an important skill that everyone should have, all are welcome and there are no other pre-requisites.

On Site Courses
We are more than happy to arrange to do on-site courses. Cost for an on-site course is $1800. This is for a group of upto 15 participants. For locations outside 50km radius from our home base (Mayfield), travel and accommodation may be extra. Call or email for more details on price, structure, and available dates for an on-site first aid course.
Minimum Numbers
Regular public courses are contingent on a minimum of 5 students. We reserve the right to reschedule or cancel these courses due to a lack of participants. Should this happen, we will always notify students of this decision a minimum of 1 week prior to the day of the course.
Outcome/Qualifications
Training and assessment delivered on behalf of Commonsense Safety Training (RTO code 41347).
Participants who successfully complete the course will receive two (2) Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainments:
- HLTAID011 - Provide First Aid
- HLTAID009 - Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
Learners Rights, Responsibilities and Support, including Complaints
