Our Prepare Work Zone Traffic Management Plan course – formerly known as the Red Card – is the nationally recognised qualification you need to design, modify, and assess Traffic Management Plans (TMPs) and Traffic Guidance Schemes (TGS).

Delivered in Newcastle by local trainers with real-world industry experience, this course meets all SafeWork NSW requirements and ensures you’re ready to take on high-responsibility roles in traffic management planning and site risk assessment.

This training is for those who need to carry out preliminary risk assessments, interpret traffic control requirements, and create compliant TMPs/TGSs for roadwork sites. This course does not qualify participants to control traffic with a stop/slow bat or set up signs and devices on site.

Who is this course for?

This course is recommended for experienced traffic controllers, site supervisors, and infrastructure project managers involved in the planning and documentation of road safety and worksite management strategies.

This course is ideal for experienced traffic control personnel, site supervisors, project managers, or those working in infrastructure and construction who are responsible for designing or modifying TMPs/TGSs.

About The Course

Participants will learn to design and modify traffic control plans in accordance with SafeWork NSW and local road authority requirements. This includes practical use of traffic planning software, stakeholder communication, and compliance documentation.

There are no formal prerequisites, but experience in traffic control and working knowledge of Traffic Control Plans is strongly recommended.

What is the PWZ/Traffic Management Designer course?

This two-day training program builds advanced capability in developing Traffic Management Plans (TMP) and Traffic Guidance Schemes (TGS). It does not qualify participants to physically control traffic (i.e. stop/slow bat or boom gates)-that’s a separate credential.

Class Size

Maximum class size is limited to 12 participants. Public courses require a minimum of 6 participants to proceed. We will notify students at least one week in advance if a course needs to be rescheduled due to low enrolments.

Course Requirements

There are no formal training package or training pre-requisites, however it is highly recommended that participants have prior experience in traffic control and in implementing traffic control plans.

Age Requirements

Participants must be at least 17 years of age to enrol in this course.

Outcome/Qualifications

123 Training Solutions conduct PWZ courses in partnership with and on behalf of Commonsense Safety Training (RTO code 41347). Commonsense Safety Training is not CRICOS Registered. For information on privacy see their Privacy Notice.

Successful students will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for the following units of competency:

Upon successful completion, you’ll receive a Statement of Attainment for the above units, and your training will be logged toward obtaining your SafeWork NSW Traffic Control Work Training (TCWT) card.
